30 Days of Disneyland Attraction Postcards

My 30 day challenge has been one of the biggest projects I’ve undertaken. From conceptualization to the finished product, I worked hard to post once a day for 30 consecutive days. Inspired by the work of Joey Chou, I decided I wanted to make 30 days of Disney Attraction Postcards that had a hidden Mickey on them. Each row is a group of 3 attractions from the same land or theme connected by a gradient background.

The Full Project

There you have it! The cumulation of all of my postcards. Below is a slideshow of each complete set:

Each postcard started with my own reference photos! I accumulated over 300 photos of different Disneyland attraction buildings and ride vehicles as I created my own database of inspiration. I used these photos to trace over basic shapes in Procreate so that I would have a simpler template to follow in Illustrator.

The Process

Smugglers Run and Guardians are probably the postcards with the most intricate detail. It was important in my sketch to simplify the photo into geometric shapes and have the mountain use bigger shapes to show differentiation from the ship. I wanted to keep the detail of the mountains while also having the Millennium Falcon stand out as the focal point.

There are four images for every post: the postcard mockup, vector art, a “did you find the hidden Mickey?” prompt, and a reveal of the hidden Mickey. I made a template in Illustrator to put together each post group, which were then saved as jpgs in organized folders.
