Portland Posters
This is a series of three type posters I created based off of the city of Portland Oregon. When I toured Portland State in February 2020, one thing I noticed about the city is the amount of murals and art around. Portland has a very artistic and unique culture, and I wanted these type posters to mimic the mural style while also playing off of nature themes.

Poster 1: Thin type with mural backround as shapes extend the letterforms.
Poster 2: Layout inspired by record, plays with circular forms.
Poster 3: Imagery inside letterforms that plays with counterspace, letters extend off page.
Process
Moodboard
I created a moodboard to show the mural style I wanted to emulate that I experienced when I visited Portland. While it is a very urban city, Portland also has a close connection to nature and music which I wanted to include as well.
Sketches
Before jumping into illustrator, I experimented with physical forms to shape out the typography. This helped me gain a better understanding of how the letterforms worked with both positive and negative space and freely explore different shapes.
Then I made 12 thumbnail sketches of different poster compositions that played with the letterforms. The highlighted ones are what my final designs were based off of.
Digital Versions
As I brought my designs from sketches into Illustrator, there was some trial and error to get the final look. I began the process by first creating the letterforms to use as a template for all my posters to get a cohesive look.
